The pandemic is not stopping awards season, but it managed to delay some of the biggest shows on the calendar, including the Golden Globes. Last year it was announced that the Globes, which have taken place in January in recent years, were being pushed back. “To accommodate both domestic and international film and television productions, the HFPA will provide further guidance around eligibility, voting period, and revised nominations announcement timing in the coming weeks,” the Hollywood Foreign Press Association said in June of 2020.

While it’s currently unclear how the ceremony will take place in light of the ongoing health crisis, here is everything we do know about the 78th annual Golden Globe Awards 2021:

Who is hosting the 2021 Golden Globes?

Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, who hosted from 2013 to 2015, are returning to co-host this year’s Golden Globes. “There’s no denying that Tina and Amy’s comedic chemistry is infectious,” Lorenzo Soria, president of the HFPA, said in a statement. “We can’t wait to see the dynamic duo return to the Golden Globes stage.”

In January, Poehler shared an update on the status of preparations for the show. During an appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers, she teased, “The prep is going so good. We just have a few final questions, which is when? How? Why? Where? And when? That’s all we need to find out. But we’re going to figure it out.”

Who is the Golden Globe Ambassador this year?

Filmmaker Spike Lee‘s children, Satchel and Jackson Lee, are this year’s Golden Globe Ambassadors, who will assist with duties during the awards show. Per the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, Satchel and Jackson’s “appointment marks the first time in HFPA history that two siblings of color have held the position, with Jackson being the first Black male Ambassador.”

“We’re proud to welcome Satchel and Jackson Lee to an incredible roster of previous Golden Globe Ambassadors,” Ali Sar, president of the HFPA, said. “Akin to their esteemed filmmaker father known for his uncompromising and provocative storytelling, Satchel and Jackson have already begun to blaze their own paths in the arts. We are honored to see how they’ll use this platform to elevate the important issues of LGBTQIA+ health and youth mentorship.”
